Crohn's plus Naltrexone equals remission - Anonymous
FOR some people LDN is a huge help in the fight against the effects of multiple sclerosis.
It is well known, for example, that the ravages of fatigue can be considerably ameliorated by this inexpensive medication.
But it can also be of great assistance in helping to relieve the various symptoms of other illnesses.
This is an account of how the medicine can be more than useful in the fight against another appalling illness - Crohn?s Disease.
The author wishes to remain anonymous but his account should be read by anyone who is considering trying LDN.
?I am a retired male in my late sixties. I considered myself an achiever with a determined work ethic and as a bank Chief Executive Officer specialising in rescuing troubled banks, I had put myself under a great deal of stress.
?When you couple that with a genetic disposition for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), well, I had put myself on a runaway merry-go-round with indeterminate Ulcerative Colitis that later changed to Crohn's, resulting in multiple, painful flare-ups.
?I was diagnosed as having Diverticulitis with a Perforated Colon in 1992, then Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in 1993.
?An uncontrolled flare-up in 1997 dictated J-pouch surgery (an ileoanal reservoir surgery which corrects diseases of the colon).
?The surgery involves the removal of the large intestine and the creation of an internal pouch/stool storage space from the small intestine. The following year (1998) I took early retirement due to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
?In 2004 due to escalating symptoms, I had a capsule camera endoscopy resulting in an amended diagnosis from UC to Crohn's Disease.
?The camera capsule did not pass as expected. It lodged in my bowel at an old stoma site - so in 2005 I had to have emergency surgery to remove the capsule and remove another stricture (narrowing).
?Biopsies taken during this emergency procedure confirmed Crohn's Disease.
?After my last round of surgery I was having up to 20 bowel movements per day with extreme blood loss.
?This necessitated iron and blood infusions. HGB (haemoglobin blood test) once got down to 5.7.
?I had four or five violent obstructions with horrible pain and the vomiting up of everything inside my body, including faeces.
?Earlier in 2006 (before LDN) I had been taking 200mg Imuran, 6mg Entocort, and nine tablets of Imodium.
?But even though this treatment regime had resulted in some improvement, I was still having six to eight bowel movements per day and was experiencing intermittent painful spasms.
?On December 20 06 I started taking LDN and by February 20 07 I was in remission. NO Imuran, NO Entocort, NO Imodium.
?I take 4.5mg Naltrexone daily. My naltrexone is specially compounded into capsules. I have 4-5 bowel movements per day now!
?Since taking LDN I have also experienced a welcome eight pound increase in weight which I attribute to better absorption.
?I have no Crohn's pain and my current complete blood count was HGB = 15.
?My diet consists of normal food. I have not modified my diet radically. I take Forvia high absorption vitamins designed for IBD and walk for a half-hour daily.
?I'm looking forward to being able to enjoy some more outdoor activities like fishing and RV-ing.
LIFE IS GOOD.?

Hi,
I just started LDN, I would like to know how time it takes to see improvements, and is it possible that I get more blood in my stool in the first days of the treatment?
Thanks,

Did you get anywhere with this query?
We are asked this a lot - and would like to know what happened with your case, so we can pass it on to other people.
Thanks!
